I presented this guitar at the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase in 2016. It is a small archtop derived from the Berlin models (from which it takes the resonance holes) and Yul Ballesteros² (from which it takes the pickup and the location of the controls). And the curly ovangkol wood of the back and sides is amazing.
As all the guitars here, this one is just an example. If you want something similar but it is not exactly what you see, please take into account that you can change a lot of things, many without additional cost. Email me and we’ll talk!
Back and sides carved/bent in curly Ovangkol.
European Spruce carved top, with asymmetrical resonance holes.
Curly Maple and Merbau neck, with 25 1/2″ (648 mm) scale. The bone nut has a width of 1 11/16″ (43 mm). The fingerboard is Ebony, with jumbo stainless steel frets (Jescar FW47104SS).
Curly Etimoe bindings, with plastic purflings.
The peghead is similar to the one in my Manouche-inspired guitars, but this is more slim and it doesn't have a zero-fret. The peghead face is dark/clear ebony. The machines are Schaller Grand Tune, with snakewood buttons.
These holes work as well as the traditional f-holes, but they tend to weaken the sides. To reinforce them, they are built in three layers: the ovangkol outside, a inner black-dyed maple laminate and an intermediate layer of Nomex honeycomb:
Ebony tailpiece, with reliable ground connection for the strings.
The tail has a Switchcraft jack and a very interesting purfling scheme:
The pickup is installed at the end of the neck with two nylon pins, so it doesn't need a pickguard:
The tone and volume controls are here, at the side:
D’Addario strings, EJ21 (12-52)
Nitrocellulose finish (Votteler), natural.
